Vastu for the Gate in the Compound Wall

on

From commercial to residential projects, compound wall is an intrinsic part of every building. While serving as demarcate of the boundary of the property, a compound wall also acts as the first layer of protection from unwanted entrants. Vastu Shastra has underlined the importance of having a compound wall which is compliant with Vastu principles.

Here is a list of most essential Vastu guidelines when it comes to building a compound wall.

Timing of Compound Wall Construction:

Vastu Shastra gives due importance to the timing of the compound wall construction. According to Vastu guidelines, a compound wall must be constructed as soon as the well and storage sections of the plot are constructed. Since the purpose of the compound wall is to offer a protective layer, it must be built before any construction is started at the actual site.

Construction Streamline:

Vastu principles underline the importance of beginning the construction of a compound wall from the Southeastern direction. Apart from beginning the construction from the southeastern coordinates, the construction must always begin on an auspicious day. The timing of construction of the compound wall must be given equal significance as the Bhoomi puja or final house warming mahurat timing. While constructing the compound wall, north and eastern sides can be left open and constructed only once the southern and eastern sides are completed. If the building is being built in compliance with Vastu principles, the actual building must be located in the southwestern corner of the plot. In such a scenario, the northern compound wall can be left open and the space used as a dumping ground for building and construction material.

Size of the Compound Wall:

There are clear guidelines underlining the size and the overall height of the compound wall. Irrespective of a residential or a commercial property, the compound wall must never be higher than the building. The higher the compound wall there is more likelihood of it cutting out natural light. Since sunlight plays an intrinsic role in enhancing the positive vibes of the property, a compound wall must never be too high.

Thickness and Directions:

Since southern and western directions are not considered auspicious according to Vastu principles, the compound wall in both these directions must be a tad thicker than the other directions. Apart from the Vastu guidelines, the southwestern part of the compound wall gets in direct contact with the sun rays. The thicker the southwestern section there is more likelihood of it absorbing the bright sunshine. Having a thick compound wall in the west and south directions, therefore, offer a cooler place in the summer season.

General Vastu Guidelines for Compound Wall

Once the compound wall is built according to Vastu Shastra, other important guideline as per Vastu is to avoid any gate in the southern direction.
Unless the site faces the south direction, one should avoid a south facing entrance gate. Gates should always open in a clockwise direction.
Another important Vastu principle is to have two gates instead of one for entrance. One gate can be used by residents and the other can be used for vehicles.

WHAT ARE THE VASTU GUIDELINES FOR THE MAIN GATE AND SMALLER GATES?

Two gates are preferable:

The Reasoning – It makes sense to have a big gate for the car to enter and a smaller gate which is easier to handle near the entrance.

Avoid gates in the extreme corners:

The Reasoning – It is inconvenient to open and close a gate that is fixed to the corners of the wall.

Main gate and the entrance door should face the same direction:

The Reasoning– For visitors entering through the gate, it is easier for them to locate the door if the door is also facing the same direction as the gate.

Avoid a gate in the South side:

The Reasoning – The South is not considered auspicious for an entrance, but obviously, if your Site is a South facing one, the gate has to be in the Southside.

Gates should open clockwise:

The Reasoning – Since the majority of the population is right-handed, it is easier to push open a door or gate in the clockwise direction.

WHAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED WITH REGARD TO MAIN GATES?

Avoid the following type of obstructions in front of the main gate:

Big tree:

The Reasoning  It will feel like an obstruction when one is about to enter or go out through the gate.

Ditch:

The Reasoning – It is inconvenient to maneuver around the ditch or gutter to enter through the gate.

Open well:

The Reasoning – It is dangerous to have an open well just outside the gate.

Dilapidated house:

The Reasoning – It is quite unsettling to see negative things like a dilapidated house, every time you step out through the gate.

Electric/Telephone post:

The Reasoning  A-pillar or telephone post is an obstruction, every time you step out or enter through the gate.

Distance between obstruction and house:

But if there is a road between the plot and the obstacles these deficiencies are nullified. Similarly, if the distance between the obstacles and the house is two times the height of the house, these deficiencies will have no effect. The Reasoning – If the obstructions are far from the gate, naturally they don’t behave like obstacles.
This post was about the Vastu tips for the positioning of the Gates. The Gates lead into the Garden and Car Porch/Garage of the house. Sometimes they lead out of the Kitchen Garden at the back. Read about the Vastu guidelines for these spaces here:
